Toilet Paper Roll Turkey… Wait, What??

“Oh, Ashley! Since you are the Event Planner in the family, would you be willing to coordinate our Thanksgiving dinner this year?” You bet I jumped at that opportunity!

My Event Planning talents are rooted in my family. My mom and sisters have the same skill for details and organizing. Basically, we know what we like and we know how to make it happen. That means the menu, location, and time were easy to set, but I was excited to plan fun activities for the kids in the family!

Toilet Paper Roll Turkeys and “Menurkeys” were the post-dinner craft projects I planned for my neice and nephews who are 3, 4, and 9 years old. The Toilet Paper Roll Turkeys were a big hit! In fact, they were so popular, we never made it to making “Menurkeys”!

If you’re looking for a craft to do with the kids at your Thanksgiving get-together, here is the “how-to” for Toilet Paper Roll Turkeys:

You will need empty toilet paper rolls, construction paper, crayons, scissors, and tape.

Pick at least 3 different colors of construction paper to use. Trace your hand on each color and cut the outline from the paper.

Stack the cut-outs on top of each other and tape them together. Make sure you can see each color! Then tape the cut-outs to the toilet paper roll.

Use a piece of white paper to make eyes for your turkey. Color circles on the white paper to give the turkey eyes some personality! Tape the eyes to the toilet paper roll.

Cut a square (any size) from a piece of construction paper. Fold the square in half, corner to corner. It will create a triangle for the beak. Tape the beak to the toilet paper roll.

Cut a small, thin piece of paper to create what I call the “gobble gobble” part of the turkey. (It’s the part that hangs from the beak.) Tape that on to the toilet paper roll.

Your Toilet Paper Roll Turkey has come to life! Encourage the kids to name their turkey and show him off to all their family and friends!

  1. You forgot the “cup of coffee in the Tweety bird mug” as a required supply! The turkey craft was a huge hit – Roman carries his everywhere with him, and is angry that I won’t let him take it to daycare with him!
